With a utility model, technical inventions can be protected easily and inexpensively for a maximum of eleven years. A utility model is a quickly enforceable property right. The substantive requirements for protection, novelty and inventive achievement are not examined. The application documents are simply registered with a short formal examination and published between three and twenty months after the filing date.
The protection of a utility model is initially valid for three years by paying maintenance fees after three, six or eight years the protection can be extended.
